Unable to read burned DVD's

#1 Post by yawnmoth » Thu Mar 31, 2005 3:08 am

I've tried both DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs, have tried changing the book setting to DVD-ROM, and all in all, have had zero success in getting burned DVD's to play.

The firmware update on ibm.com may apply, but doesn't do me much good as it's on floppies and I don't have a floppy disk drive.

And ideas as to what else I can do to get it working? The optical drive identifies itself as...

Code: Select all

HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N 0211
The ThinkPad is an R40.

You can upgrade to firmware revision #0214 here without floppies:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... dr1807.exe

Note that there is always a risk in doing firmware upgrades (like BIOS upgrades), and I cannot be responsible for any issues you may encounter if you attempt this, including a non-functional drive.

The above firmware upgrade came from the following source page:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?c ... ufactor=16

Goodluck!

P.S. You might also get lucky and find firmware to set your drive to Region-Free here: http://tdb.rpc1.org/#GCC4240N (You would have to do this upgrade rather than the above upgrade from what I understand.)
But be very very careful with patched firmware like this...READ INSTRUCTIONS VERY VERY CAREFULLY.
アイビーエム、シンクパッド T30 w/modified NEC 6500 DVD Burner, TP600E, Japanese TP535E & Japanese TP560. RIP T380D
