Compact Disk Usage

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sun Jun 26, 2011 11:21 pm

I have lots of CDs, even DVDs that I replaced over my old taken up space VHS tapes.
I have a few CDs, That are hard to find like Classic PSone games and such. I try to keep them like new and from getting scratched. But I found a CD or two that has started to crack from the middle circle where the drive holds the CD in place. Witch this starts from my guessing everyday usage, Such as inserting it into the older CD players "not with the CD tray" to putting it back into those very hard to take out DVD cases. Not sure if their was ever a way of fixing these problems or not. My way was putting a scotch tape on it or sometimes some crazy glue "with not dropping a drop on the CD itself"

A few years back I bought a CD cleaning kit that cleaned your system's CD drive lens eye and a scratch removal for CDs. I used it on a few scratched CDs and it didn't do to good. Now is their a real kit/place that you can take a CD and get it completely scratch clean?

There used to be a shop locally that had a resurfacer... check with any video rental places you might have... good luck there what with NetFlix and RedBox.

My boss once used a guy in NJ (automotive shop needed a HIGH dollar CD resurfaced)...

I'd call 1st to make sure he's still doing it, been a number of years (early 2000's).

If the original disk has "started to crack from the middle circle ", why wouldn't you simply copy that disc to a new one?

Scratches are one thing... nobody offers a service to fix those center cracks.

But yea, thank goodness for modding consoles, nice to be able to backup games. PSOne games are simple to clone, they read in a normal writer :)

So if I put a PSone game in my CD/RW/DVD drive and copy the entire CD to a new folder and then put in a CD/RW disc and take all the CD data from that CD with having show hidden files and folders and burn to the disc and put it in my PS systems it will read?
Mainly my GameShark discs are the ones with the crack starting in the center circle "PSone & PS2", probably made cheap.

Also my Resident Evil 3 Nemesis disc freezes kinda in the middle end of the game but still plays the music. I know the PlayStation 3 has the download Classic PSone games, but it don't have all my games, And was woundering if you are able to burn the PSone games you leagley own to the PS3, I use to own the very first PS3 that could play the PSone/PS2/PS3 games but quit working, The powerbox went out in it and replaced it and it went out, So I bought the new Slim PS3. But I can't play the PS2 games on it. Will sony come out with an update to play PS2 games on the new PS3? This would make everything nice for my to have all my games burned to my PS3, if anyone looking at my other thread, I came up with copying my DVDs to CF cards, but still waiting for the future of 1TB-2TBs of them like how the HDDs came too.

Good question, give it a shot. There is nothing to lose since it's a CDRW we're talking about.

My suggestion would be to use the "copy" or "duplicate" function, if it exists, within the program you use to burn a CD. This would create a sector-by-sector copy that should play like the original. Copying files/folders to a temporary folder on the hard drive and then writing them back to the disk may not always work.

With your "mod chip" also installed, yes. (the "modchip" for a PS1 is like the Breaker Pro
)

Im trying to copy a Sony PSone game (All CD Data to my game CF card" since I fear its about to blow up in the CD drive like a previous PC game did a few years back. Their are small cracks on the inter circle where the CD drive spins the disc. So im wanting to copy the data from the CD and put the CD back in the case for save keeping. During the copy/Rip I get this error: Cannot copy MV1: Invalid MS-DOS function. Im saving it to a single folder named of the game. Im running Windows XP Professional, Since my system has dual boot of XP and 7 im going to try 7 after posting this and see if it will let me do it. And No not trying to play the PSone game on the PC, just saving all the data to it from off the CD.

I brought out my IBM ThinkPad 760XD running Windows 98 and everything copied fine on it. Windows 7 showed same error.

Years ago I picked up a lot of so-called "CD-Lifts".
They were made in Holland by Naber Plastics, and distributed by (among others) "Conrad" in Germany.
These are little yokes that you put in the (8-teeth only, not 12-teeth) center hole of a CD jewel box.
You then put the CD in, over the yoke. To get the CD out, you just press on the button, which lifts the CD up and free of its holdings.
Couldn't find a picture, but here is the patent-application with drawings:
http://www.sumobrain.com/patents/wipo/D ... 7555A1.pdf
I have some of these left over, brandnew, 3 original boxes with 20 yokes each.
$10.- per box shipped to Conus.
PM me if interested, first come, first served.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

These are the DVD cases I like, The 2 push in button one. http://www.camerakit.ie/prodimages/amaraydvddgrey.jpg
The worse I saw was the Nintendo GameCube cases. You had to pull up and the edges of the discs. Not sure why no place has notices this about discs, and gave a much solider center. XBOX also had this style double push in case: http://media.photobucket.com/image/XBOX ... OXDVD1.jpg
