Does anyone have a connection for foreign IBM parts?

#1 Post by asiafish » Thu Mar 31, 2005 12:58 pm

I want to get the Korean language keyboard for my T42p, but IBM parts lists it as out of stock with no ETA. They warn it could take months.

There are two part numbers, one for a Chicony (13n9846) and one for an NMB (08k5059). I'm assuming the NMB is the Thai keyboard, so that is the one I want.

Is there a way to order it direct from IBM Korea and have it shipped to the United States? I do a lot of typing in Korean, but am not a native speaker, so I definitely need the Korean characters on the keyboard. External keyboard is not an option.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

If you know somebody in Korea (may be a relative) they should be able to get one easily from places like YongSan.

Or how about contact LG-IBM of Korea and see if you can get one from them? IBM is sold through LG in Korea.

I know you may be concerned about shipping cost but I believe that is the only reasonable way to get it within acceptable time.

Or you can actually learn to type Korean with English keyboard, left half is where all the consonants are and the right half is where all the vowels are.
I know it can be some what difficult at the beginning but with regular typing daily you can master it in about 2 weeks. Eventually you will end up typing faster than actually having the characters on the keyboard.

Thanks, I'll see if my brother-in-law can pick it up for me.
