possible to add/upgrade video card in x61 tablet?!? anybody?

#1 Post by sacket » Fri Jul 01, 2011 4:58 pm

is it seriously not possible to install a decent ati or nvidia graphics card into an x61 tablet and supplant the integrated one? like, absolutely impossible? does the x6 ultrabase allow for one? is there a such thing as an external video card i could purchase and use instead?

if not, then i'll have to reconsider purchasing an x61 tablet.

well, are there any other 4:3 (non-widescreen) thinkpads that DO support good video cards (tablet or not)? what about the regular x6 models? what about T6 models?

thanks. i am new to all of this, as you can tell.

It is indeed seriously not possible!

The ThinkPad X systems in general are designed to optimise portability, rather than provide high-end GPU performance.

[censored]. well, do you happen to know off-hand if the T-series models offer such functionality?

There is no Thinkpad, nor has one ever existed that allowed you to upgrade an internal graphics adapter.

Many Thinkpad models you can configure with more powerful graphics adapter to begin with.

Others will accept an external graphics card in the docking station.

Look into the T series.

Well it's hard enough already to stumble upon upgradeable GPUs on laptops, let alone on tablets! Sorry to disappoint you...

What you might want to look into is eGPUs.. External GPUs at notebookreview forums.
