CD won't eject tray
CD won't eject tray
I'm having a bit of a problem with my new T42. The drive (FRU 13N6769) sometimes won't eject the tray. No matter how many times I press the tray eject button or click on eject (CD Drive -> right click -> Eject) the just tray won't open. I have to reboot and then it works OK again. My T42 is about one month old and this has now happened four times. It's more of an annoyance than a real problem, but I'd like some input before I call IBM for replacement.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Same here
I have the same problem with my new T43 as well (T43 is the latest model).
I believe this problem may be caused by one of the ThinkPad's Eject utility settings or maybe the software's bug. I'm in opinion that this may not be a hardware issue, rather a software issue.
I have been through all settings in the Eject utility but failed to identify the relevant setting.
If anyone could shed some lights on this issue please let us know. Installing, for example, Visual Studio .NET 2003 which consists of multiple discs was so frustrating due to the problem.

I am also experiencing this same problem with the CD refusing to reject upon pressing the eject button. I've been able to get around this by removing the CD drive case and reinserting it back into the unit then pressing the eject button. It works most of the time for me but sometimes I have to it twice before it works. I am tempted to call IBM but since my system is new I want to be sure there's no other problems else where before I contact IBM.

Me too! Had the problem on a Matshita UJDA755 DVD/CDRW. Ended up getting a replacement drive from IBM and that solved the issue.

Don't know if this will help any (I never experienced a problem)....but IBM has released a new version of the DLA utility. One of the fixes sounds interesting with respect to this issue.....

version 4.95
Fix for Drive door locking intermittently
More silent interface

I personally would never insall the DLA software...too many things it interferes with...especially other burning software...it's just not very stable.
My suggestion is that if the drive is still under warranty, to get it replaced.
A a separate bu related note, if the light is on on the drive, it means that it is still running it it won't eject until it goes off...You can also try going into My Computer, right clicking on your drive and selecting "eject," but there probably is limited success with this and I'd say that most of you have tried this already.

Ditto - but what's the solution?
Exact same problem with my couple-week-old T42 (2373 N3U). So...I haven't seen any solution posted yet. Anybody talk with tech support to see if there is a viable option? From what I'm interpreting in this string, using the DLA (what is it?) and replacing the drive doesn't seem to be the answer?

I may look like Alfred E. Neuman, but I worry about details. T42 2373n3u since 3/05
For my TP41, DLA (Drive Letter Access) came installed as part of the pre-load. It's a utility that allows you to format a CD and use it as you would a disk. To access the setup, right click on the CD drive icon and go to Properties.....you'll see the DLA tab there.
If you want to get rid of it, you can uninstall it from the Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.
Also, in the Add/Remove entry, if you 'Click here for support information', it will tell you the version.
The latest update I referenced just installs and exits immediately when you run it......no separate unpack then install.....

Checked my settings and found that I already have 4.95 installed - obviously it isn't solving the problem....johniii wrote:Don't know if this will help any (I never experienced a problem)....but IBM has released a new version of the DLA utility. I just had the same problem with my new T43 (2 days old
) also. I actually could eject CD tray several times (~ 30+ times) without any problems. Finally, I had the same problem this morning that I could not eject the MS office CD even pushing the blue button or right click and select "eject". So, I followed the suggestion from kevinlwu posted in the other link (below):
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=
"Oddly enough, I was fed up with this issue and was going to IBM but i found out if a CD rejected to eject when pushing the button I right clicked the drive in My Computer and selected the "Use with DLA" item(which is something with IBM RecordNow - Sonic Software that is bundled with the computer) after i select it the drive becomes ejectable. I guess this may be a workaround, let me know if its just me or if it works for you.
- Kevin"
And, right after I checked (or uncheck) the "Use with DLA" item, I can eject the cd tray with the blue button. So, I guess my case is due to software problem not the hardware. Maybe the DLA program actually causes more troubles as MadeInJapan mentioned.
Hope this help.

TP cd tray eject problem..a solution
Hello,
This is my first posting. I have my new T42 (....3XU) and I faced the same problem in getting my cd's out of the tray. whatever tech IBM comes up with ...system runs on windows!!!
i was looking for ways to eject without rebooting/uninstalling anything...follow the long step here...it worked for me all the time...
no need to reboot or use ur penknife to take the cd out....
(may write this down before u start...)
if XP Goto:
Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Removable Storage > Libraries > "shows your drive" > 'right click' > Eject
By the way, this is my new machine and I still dont know the source of the problem ..May be i will figure that out this weekend...
good luck...proud to be a TP-er.
