T500 w/ Intel 5100, slower to reconnect

The Intel 5100 in my T500 (Win 7) seems to be noticeably slower to reestablish a connection after coming out of sleep.
It takes over 10 seconds whereas my other thinkpads with different wifi cards usually took a few seconds or less.
I'm wondering if switching to a Intel 5300 or ThinkPad 11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter II will make a difference?

I've experienced this myself with my Win7 HP 64bit T400. Ever since they came out with the Tx20's, my wifi hasn't worked the same. So far the stop gap measure is to rollback the Wifi card driver to the original Win7 driver (ca 2009).

Lenovo hasn't given me any help at all on this subject especially now that my T400 has been out of warranty for a year.
