IBM Access Connections (ver. 3.70) - Profiles Question

#1 Post by iminj » Thu Mar 31, 2005 6:31 pm

I have 2 profiles (one is Static & the other is DHCP) ... both connecting to the same 802.11g router.

Does anyone know how to configure Access Connections so one can control which of the 2 profiles is the DEFAULT at system bootup? I can't find any configuration options for this.

It's simple to switch profiles on-the-fly (Fn+F5), but I'd prefer to be able to set one of the profiles as the default.

Thanks.

If you go to the top menu under Location Switching, you can deselect wireless profiles that you don't want to be tested on each startup. I don't know if that will prevent an otherwise working profile from connecting, but you could try it. ... JD Hurst

Thanks jdhurst:

I tried your suggestion but it didn't achieve the desired result.

In the "location switching" tab, I moved my preferred default profile (DHCP) to the #1 Priority and CHECKED the action box for switching. Then I moved the other profile (Static IP) to the #2 Priority and UNchecked the action box.

When I rebooted, .... the Static IP Profile opened in Access Connections. I'm starting to think this isn't configurable via the GUI.

Hi there,

There is also a check-box somewhere that lets you..

"Use this profile during Windows log-on"

Also, the nature of DHCP means that if your computer already has an IP assigned - it will try and keep it until the lease expires. So it could be that it checks to see if any other computer has that IP - and if not keeps it even though it's not the static address assigned by you.

I had trouble setting up a wireless connection with a static IP. Access connections kept telling me to "Use DHCP for this connection".

Hope this helps :) hkhalil
