Try putting a "LF" (looking for) post in the marketplace here. Maybe some other user has an adapter for sale.

I've bought three adapters from Ebay sellers in China and never had a problem so far *knock on wood*, why do you "guess" that the adapter isn't working? Did you try to install a ZIF drive?

You can get them on eBay from a number of US sellers.

I posted about this before but as soon as I install the drive and adapter the thinkpad wont start. I can start the thinkpad with no HD and the original HD but as soon as I have the adapter in it will not power on. Even without the zif drive attached to the adapter.

How did you install the adapter? Did you remove the keyboard and palmrest? Was the ZIF cable properly attached to the drive? And the last question, which adapter do you have, something like this?

No, you're right. Huh. The ones that I had all bookmarked are gone!

(Bad news for me, since I still see a fair number of X40 re-fits...)

As said above I was lucky with the China ones I bought ... So there may be some light at the end of the tunnel  I think it's worth a try...

Oh, I certainly have numerous non-US sources. I was just hoping to have a US supply, since I don't like to keep a big parts stock (I don't do *that* many refurbs...) and ordering from HK/CN adds about a week of transit time.

mine looks like the one you linked. zif was properly attached. did not remove palmrest as I didnt think I needed to. It slid right into the slot and into the right pin position. what purposes would I need to remove the keyboard/palmrest?

To avoid this :(

It happened in my first attempt to ever put a ZIF adapter in my first X40, since then I always disassemble the keyboard and palmrest.

My 2 cents...
