T43 and DVI
T43 and DVI
After having received my new toy (T43, 2668-72G) I want to buy an external TFT display.
Do the T43 (without "P") with the port replicator II provide a DVI signal for the display?

T42 and Port Replicator II DVI setup
I am unsuccessfully struggling to get the DVI to work with a Port Replicator II and a Dell 2001 FP (1600x1200 res). I've loaded the Omega drivers (successfully I think?) but I haven't found an interface where they seem to particularily help. I've also used the Access IBM Presentation Manager to set up a 1600x1200 external DVI display set to load automatically when docked but this hasn't worked either (I get the "I'm not connected to anything" monitor screen when booted up in the replicator); this is what IBM support told me to do when I called them today.
One thing I haven't tried yet is using Patje's Modding Tool in conjunction with the ATI drivers.
I did have the VGA display working though the PRII with the ATI drivers but this was not very crisp, thus the desire for DVI.
At least several people on this forum seemed to have worked though these issues and made it work, but I am still at a loss as to how they did it. More specific advice on how to do this from the many saavy Txx owners out there would be great. I've read all the FAQs and the ThinkWiKi posts multiple times to no avail . . . .

OK - I feel pretty stupid now - or at least halfway dumb. The Dell 2001FP has a button to toggle between four different type of display inputs and I overlooked this in my setup.
After correcting this mistake and setting it to DVI, the display was still operating at 1280x1024 w/ the Omega drivers (probably due to user error on my part). After repeated trial and error I decided to bail on the Omega drivers and instead try the Patje's Mod Tool and official ATI drivers route, so I unistalled Hydravision(Omega), installed MS .net, installed ATI Catalyst 5.3 driver (as far as it would auto-install) then installed and ran Patje's Modding Tool to finish the driver setup.
In docked position (on port repl II) both displays turned on in 1450x1050 mode. I disabled the laptop display in ATI then used Presentation Director to apply DVI 1600x1200 mode to the 2001FP and presto! it worked and the quality is awesome.
Autocad might even be fun again, for a little while anyway . . . .
So, thanks to mattfromomaha and all the others who have contributed to this topic here and on other threads, and certainly to all the other very bright and active participants who keep Thinkpads.com such a great resource!!!
PS - If some of the instructions above seems like jibbersih then see the T series forum FAQ stickys for starters and links. And if you feel only marginally computer-literate like me - have hope! - it can be done.
