Thinking about installing Wireless Mini-PCI...
Thinking about installing Wireless Mini-PCI...
First, I don't think that the forum's search feature is working properly.
A. "1802" on "ThinkPad T2x & T3x Series" returns only 3 threads.
B. "Broadcom" on same forum returns only 1 thread.
C. "Intel" on same forum returns only 4 threads.
D. "Atheros" returns zero threads.
I have one T30 with IBM Bios v2.01 and another with v2.06.
I briefly read No-1802 thread where folks have
a. added Mini-PCI ID to "whitelist" of IBM Bios
b. mod'ed Mini-PCI ID of Mini-PCI card itself to match known Mini-PCI ID of "whitelist" of bios.
c. 93P3475 and 91P7416 are listed on "whitelist" of IBM Bios v2.10
I remember a post where someone purchased a Mini-PCI 1102.bg card for less than $10 without spending hours on hours removing "1802" error and experimenting with drivers.
I can't find it using the forum's search feature. I can't find it using "Google"'s site:http://forum.thinkpads.com/ feature.
How do I go about installing Wireless Mini-PCI on my machines?

For a proper search function on this forum, bookmark this (created by our mod Harryc):
To install wifi in your (switched-off) T30:
- Open the larger lid on the bottom
- Insert the MiniPCI wifi card of your choice
- Attach the 2 antenna wires to the card
- Boot into Windows/Linux and install the wifi driver for it
- (maybe apply the NO-1802 hack)
- Enjoy
Code: Select all

Re: Thinking about installing Wireless Mini-PCI...
Since my IBM Bios is v2.01 and v2.06, am I correct to assume that a Mini-PCI wireless -b/g card that does not set off a "1802" error, does not exist?
In other words, is the proper next step for me -- to learn how to perform the "NO 1802" mod on a Mini-PCI card?

Running the
IBM Intel 2200bg card is your best bet for no 1802, that said I own a IBM card that throws the error.
http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-T41-T42-T43-X31 ... 45fb59c01b
That said the regular Intel card with the hack works fine
http://cgi.ebay.com/INTEL-PRO-WM3A2200B ... 415b8e9559
The only advantage I have seen to the IBM car is on Centrino based machines, it allows the IBM blue wireless light to work correctly. Any 2200 card will activate the Centrino, but experience on the X31's shows anly the IBM card will activate the blue wireless light.
I prefer the Atheros based card, I find it works faster cleaner better.

The NO-1802 hack must have been discussed here, what, 398 times?

Is this the link that I need?I prefer the Atheros based card, I find it works faster cleaner better.
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_w ... twork_card
If so, the link is now dead. The instructions are here (link down, 2011/05/14). This page is for Atheros-based cards and HP notebooks, but it applies to Thinkpads as well. It also has links on how to edit the PCI-ID on Intel Pro Wireless cards

Re: Thinking about installing Wireless Mini-PCI...
This is what you need (further down):
You can use the no-1802 and no-01C9 Linux Live CD without applying the no-01C9 patch. It is very convenient to use and based on the C code below.
You can use the DOS no-1802 utility, written by Tisheng Chen.2 It will set a certain bit in the CMOS memory which disables the whitelist check, but it has been reported not to work on the latest machines, such as the T43 and X41

1. a command prompt, or
2. a Boot Floppy (W98SE boot with the No1802 on it) or perhaps from:
3. a 'modified' BIOS update floppy (edit the autoexec.bat to just give me an A:\> prompt and run it from there, or:
4. do i have to use a boot CDROM?

Re: Thinking about installing Wireless Mini-PCI...
2 and 4 worked. 3 will probably work, but it is essentially 2 on a different diskette.
1 won't work, you can't have winblows running in GUI mode.
Now i get to sit here and update 5 machines BIOS, EC and then the No-1802.
Then i get to start on the T22s BIOS.
