Change screen on T41p

#1 Post by Likvid » Fri Jul 15, 2011 4:05 pm

My screen is very dim compared to my new Thinkpad, i have the light turned up to max but i don't remember if it was this dim or not.

Anyway my question is, can i replace the screen with something better and brighter? my screen is 1400x1050 14.1"

Sure, you could replace the screen with a new one, like this one, but they will likely cost more, or a least as much as the machine is worth. If you are the adventurous type, you could try a CCFL replacement. For about $10 in parts, and a very tedious procedure you might be able to get the brightness back to like new. Or you might end up ruining the panel. I've done both!
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

LOL. I've done both too. I remember successfully fixing the backlight on a 14" T42 using a busted 14" T42 screen- both just XGA as I recall. Then a while back I ruined a beautiful 15" T43 SXGA+ panel :( Haven't quite gotten those last few steps perfected. What I'll do is practice on (quite a few) busted 14" T4x screens that I have but I'm starting to wonder if the backlight isn't designed differently/ a little more delicately on certain type panels- where the least tug or twisting or stress in the wrong direction will snap them in two or tear the wrong little connective piece...
