I just purchased a T43, and pparently it's got tons of startup apps.
any idea which ones I can delete, and which ones i absoluely need,
i want to shorten the startup time as much as possible, and i wnat the system to run as smoothly as it can after it starts up.
thanks!

Lots of stuff has been posted here - way too much to start rehashing it all. So be aware of four things:
1. Lots of the IBM applications are worth having (Access Connections, Hard Drive APS, ThinkPad Power Management {Battery Maximizer optional}, Presentation Director, ThinkPad Configuration Utilities, the new Software Installer, the Mouse (UltraNav) driver for the TrackPoint).
2. Good things (paradoxically) take a while to start: DHCP, Access Connections, good Firewall/AntiVirus, and other things you may want that have nothing to do with IBM.
3. Turn off automatic updates on nearly everything.
4. If it is running fast once started (mine runs very fast), who cares if it takes a couple of minutes to get the good stuff going.

if you could point me to a few other threads on what software it's okay to remove that would be fantastic!
I need a quick startup time b/c i'm going to be using the laptop for live audio performances, so ESPECIALLY if it crashes I don't want to wait 2 minutes to get my liveset back up if I can cut it down to 30 seconds..
