T60 is dead!
T60 is dead!
I had NO problem with mij ThinkPad T60 15,4" for more than 3 years AT ALL. Everything went ok till 4 weeks ago.
It stopped starting at once! NO errors or beeps or smoke...
It doesn't sart and NONE of led lamps(Leds) goes on. Also no sound or even a small reaction. He is gone, He is dead!
I tried the Power botton trick, but unfortunatley it does not work for me.
Any other suggestions?
Specs:
Lenovo ThinkPad T60
Type 6372-63G
15,4"model
Buy in 2007
Thanks in advanced..

Re: T60 is dead!
Measure the output voltage of the AC Adapter. It should be 20 volts DC. If that checks ok, remove the battery from the T60 and try to start it with just the AC Adapter plugged in.
ThinkPad T60 1951-43U (with many upgrades)
Re: T60 is dead!
The output of the AC adaptor is indead 20 volts. I checked even after the yellow interface (to check the jack) and it is also 20 volts on board.BillP wrote:Measure the output voltage of the AC Adapter. It should be 20 volts DC. I remove the battery and start again, no difference. (no lights, sounds or something like that)

Fuse?
Re: T60 is dead!
As far as i can see, they are also Ok.redleaderone wrote:Fuse?
I checked the F2 with multimeter (OHM stand) and it passes the current.
I suppose that this is the (right) way to check the fuses.
Re: T60 is dead!
There is als no visable evidence (burnt component or dark point which shows the shortcut,....) on board!redleaderone wrote:Fuse?

Re: T60 is dead!
Have you tried removing the CMOS battery and letting it sit for a while then powering it back up?
I haven't had any Thinkpads do what your describing, but I have had other PCs do this and a reset seems to do the trick. Weird you have no lights however.

Remove all drives, all plug-able cards (WiFi, Modem, etc), and all RAM. Plug in and power up. Does the machine beep? If not, you need a new systemboard. There also also a slight possibility of a bad CPU at that point as well. Very rare that a CPU goes south though unless the system cooling was also in trouble.

I removed the CMOS battery last night and put it back after about 9 hours, and tried to start the laptop. But no difference. No lights, sound or any sighn of life!....Brian10161 wrote:Have you tried removing the CMOS battery and letting it sit for a while then powering it back up?

I had no issue with system cooling. It was in fact a "cool" machine. beacause I had set the maximum speed to %85 in Power Options settings. There also also a slight possibility of a bad CPU at that point as well. Very rare that a CPU goes south though unless the system cooling was also in trouble.
P.S. I use only the AC power to start. the battary is allready empty, and it doesn't charge.
Re: T60 is dead!
I had to explain the situation a bit more, maybe it helps to track the problem in the right direction.
The laptop is more 3.5 years old.
It used only the AC power to start. I taked the laptop seldom with me, therfore the battery was allways removed from the laptop.
I took allways the AC jack out of the laptop if I was finished with work, and set it back if I wanted to start.
If I connected the AC jack to the laptop, it taked about one or two seconds before the Power led (the second LED from right) lighted up.
What struck me was that, the the "delay time" became more and more longer the last months before his death!
I tought that it was normal, and paid no attention to it. The delay time was the last time about 3 or 4 seconds.
Every time I waited till the Power led was up and then I pressed the Power button.
The first time that I pressed the Power button BEFORE the Power led was up, was the last day of the T60
