Replacing motherboard for T40 (2373-AG2)

I have a friend in Africa who is asking me to purchase a motherboard for him to fix a T40 laptop (model 2373-AG2). I've suggested that it might be cheaper to purchase a "new" used laptop, but he still wants me to look for a motherboard

I've found some 2372-xxx motherboards on eBay, but none that exactly match 2373-AG2.

My question is whether the it's only the model number that counts, or whether I also need to match the "type" when purchasing a motherboard? In other words, would a working motherboard taken from a 2373-BDU or 2373-CU1 T40 machine work to repair a 2373-AG2 T40?

Yes, any T40, T41 or T42 systemboard will work. Also R50 and R51 boards will work. T43 and R52 boards will work but will require a new CPU and RAM.
