ThinkPad T43 Sound very poor

Set at the highest level the sound on my ThinkPad T43 is very "low". I uninstalled the audio driver, went to Lenovo for a new one and installed it. But, this didn't improve the sound level. Thinking the speakers could be bad, I purchased new ones. With new speakers, the sound is the same as it was with the old ones. No improvment at all. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to correct this problem? Or, what could be causing this problem.

Have you tried the hardware volume buttons above the keyboard, and also the software volume controls?

I actually find T43 sound pretty good. Especially when I plug in my headphones, sound is better than in my desktop with headphones pluged into Logitech system.

There are multiple things you should check. Best results are when you have hardware buttons at about 90%, and PCM(Wave) and Out volumes also at 90%. Too much sound will be distorted. Also good is to know that 90% on one volume and 80% one second, isn't the sam as 80% on first and 90% on second. It will be equally loud, but sound will have different characteristic (one will be much better).
