60" tv?

#1 Post by duke1 » Wed Jul 27, 2011 11:38 pm

Would the intel chip-set be able to display a movie on a 1080p 60" tv screen?
WTB t61, with 16:10 14" screen screen. and Intel graphics. - 7/09

I did try the same with my T61 using the dock and a DVI to HDMI cable to my 50" TV and it did not worked. :(

720p worked "kind" of fluent, but 1080p was a bad experience. I have to add that I was using Ubuntu 10.10, maybe with Windows is different...

what kind of connector is involved?

I had no problem with my T60 and the VGA connector in playing H.263 and H.264 movies on a secondary 1680*1050 monitor, under Windows XP and with a 1.66 GHz processor on my Intel GMA chipset.

With H.263 streams, the 1.66 GHz CPU is easily handling these using the VLC player (CPU load around 40 to 50%), but on H.264 streams it may be hard-pressed (on this case, I used the Combined Community Codec Pack - CCCP - and CPU load was up to 70%)

Hope this helps,
N.F.

A 1080p movie on a 1080p screen requires the same system resources, whether the screen is 10" or 6000".

I have no clue which codecs I was using. It was Ubuntu 10.10 "out of the box" + VLC with no extra tweaking. Did not try very hard since I plan to re-use and old desktop PC as HTPC. Will take a closer look when I have some spare time...

Newer VLC releases have a "speed boast with cheats" box availablel in the video settings.
