T61 palm swap.

I just got my first Think Pad used,a 14.1 wide screen T61 2.5 gig. with the Nivida 140M.
I would like to add a palm rest with a finger print reader.
Can I just swap palm rests, do all mother boards have the same port?
Or dose it mean some are not upgradable?

Any advise for a newbie would be greatly appreciated.
