T60p w/ ATI V5200 - graphic problem on battery
I there,
Couple days ago I bought T60p with ATI V5200 graphics, Win7 32bit installed.
When computer is AC powered everything seems to be OK, but on battery (I've tried 4400 and 7200mAh) screen have some kind of artifacts.
It looks like this:

I've tried Windows drivers (automatically downloaded) and ATI CCC for Win Vista.
Surprisingly, when I run eg. Firefox everything looks normal.
What is wrong?

Have you tried another OS?
I recommend a nice Linux Live CD to test, like Ubuntu. It should have all the drivers you need out of the box.
Did this problem just appear overnight, or did it get progressively worse?
May be check your power saving settings?

I didn't try other OS. I need Windows 7, but maybe it's good idea to try Linux just for tests.antond wrote:Have you tried another OS?

Do you recommend some specific Live CD?
I've just bought this computer, so it's hard to say how did this happen.
I've checked power saving setting (in bios and windows) and everything looks normal to me.
Re: T60p w/ ATI V5200 - graphic problem on battery
I would try Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, because it has excellent support for the Thinkpad T60 out-of-the-box, and it is what I'm running at the moment.
I have no first-hand experience with 11.04 but it's probably just as good.
If everything seems normal, try to stress it a bit, doing some graphics-intense stuff, to see if it holds up.

Re: T60p w/ ATI V5200 - graphic problem on battery
Go to the ATI catalyst control panel and the powerplay tab. Turn powerplay off.
This will resolve the issue -- just discovered it on a repair and registered just to let you know

Thanks for advice! I'll check if this works and let you know!
Same thing happened whether ATI drivers were installed or not, so could it be "powerplay" ?
