got my T410i today- where is my mic input? Use 3.5mm jack?

#1 Post by RWhite » Tue Aug 02, 2011 5:11 pm

Hi guys.

I just got my new Thinkpad in.

I went to try and speak on skype and noticed there is only 1 jack for a headphone input.

How can I use my normal 3.5mm jack headphones and mic?
I got away from usb headsets a while ago due to having to change the settings all the time on skype etc.

Can someone help me out and let me know what I can do to use my normal headphones with a 3.5mm jack please?

It would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

It is a combo jack.
Meaning you need an iphone style headset to have both mic and headphones on it.

Or a splitter (joiner, more accurately)

The onboard mic should be sufficient though, My t420's mic produces near-studio quality input.

Cool thanks for the reply.
I am not sure what an iphone type headset is ... but I am going to find out.

I do need a headset that I can mute with my hand while speaking.

Thanks for the reply.
If anyone else has any advice it is very much appreciated.

More info from an already-hashed-out discussion.

If you have ThinkPad Access Help installed, there is also information there with additional links.

You do realize there is a mic mute button on the keyboard right? If you mute the mic on the headset it will switch to the laptops built in stereo mic, the way around this is to use a bluetooth headset.
