Where can you find connector pinouts for the R50p

#1 Post by Woodydog » Wed Aug 03, 2011 9:19 am

I have 2 - R50p and want to hook a Garmin GPS receiver to it. I have the R50p manuals and searched the IBM/Lenovo sites for the data but cant find the pinout data for the DB 25 connector on the back of the unit which I assume has the RS-232 connections. I would appreciate any information on where to find and how to connect RS-232 to the R50p.

Thanks in advance for your help.

That 25-pin connector is a PARALLEL port for a printer, NOT a serial port!
If you need a serial port, get a docking station or a port replicator, both of which have a proper serial port.
Or get a USB->Serial adapter, such as this: http://www.usbgear.com/computer_cable_d ... 1009%2C601

UYK! I hope there is a driver that comes with the hardware that assigns lines to ports. Cantbelieve a laptop wo a serial port.

Really appreciate your response.

The last IBM Thinkpad with a Serial Port was the T30. Anything newer than that, you need additional hardware as mentioned above.
