Access Connections profile encryption change

#1 Post by sillytricks » Wed Aug 03, 2011 2:09 pm

I went into Access Connections and changed my wireless profile encryption from wep to wpa-tkip. Did the same on my wireless router. The router is set up not to transmit my SSID. Since I changed from wep to wpa, when I scan for wireless networks, mine is listed twice, once as unknown and once as my SSID. I know this because both have the same MAC address in the details. I cannot connect to the "unknown" network. I can connect to the one with my SSID.
Can anyone tell me what has happened? How do I fix this?

It's almost certainly a router issue... what is the model number of your 2-Wire router, and which WiFi card are you running?

Suggestion #1: get rid of that 3945ABG card, it's everybody's hated stepchild...
Suggestion #2: the 1/2-size Intel Advanced 6200N MiniPCI-e with corresponding 1/2-size adapter.

This may be relevant...

You should also make sure you have all the XP service packs installed and any XP patches related to WiFi applied.

There's nothing wrong with the 3945ABG card, and it works fine for 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g. I upgraded from a (2T2R) 3945ABG to a (2T3R) 4965AGN on a T60, and the only significant difference has been the ability to use 802.11n.

Cheers,
