R50p Display Cable

#1 Post by nicotean » Sat Aug 06, 2011 10:25 am

Hi

My old R50p (UXGA screen) has a few problems :most of the inverter LEDs don't work although I changed the inverter and the screen is blinking when i open or close the lid.
My diagnosis is to change the display cable since I have nothing else to try.

So, here is my question : Do I need the "special" UXGA display cable for the R50p (quite hard to find and expensive) or will any T4x/R5x display cable work with that screen ?

Thanks in advance guys :)

Yes, you do need a proper UXGA cable, and it must be for R50p because of the length.

I'm guessing a blown fuse on the board and not the cable.

Good luck.

Thanks for the answer, that's what i feared but at least I won't buy the wrong cable :)

For the fuse, do you have any idea of which one could be blown? (I already replaced one on this laptop)
All the LEDs except BT and WLAN aren't working anymore.

Ok, I just checked the fuse F8 and it is ok, maybe another fuse? Or maybe the cable is really the problem...

The R5x boards are very similar to the T4x boards; check fuses with this doc: http://theboardroom.info/T4x_Fuses.pdf

Thanks, that's what I did for the F8 one, but I guess that not all the fuses are related to the inverter LEDs.

Btw I just ordered an UXGA display cable, I'll let you know if the problem is fixed or not when I'll receive it!

Thanks for you help! :)

So, I replaced my LCD cable, it apparently fixed the blinking screen problem but the status leds are still not working...

Any other ideas? Should I check all the fuses?
Last time I short circuited the F8 fuse to see if the leds would turn on that way, is this a right procedure?

Thanks in advance :)

According to the fuse diagram, F3, F7, and F8 are associated with the LCD. I'd check all of them. Shorting a fuse is a very bad way to check it because of the risk of damage due to potential over-driving of the circuit. Use a multimeter with all power (including battery) removed from the board.

Yeah you're right, I should take my multimeter with me next time and I'll check these two fuses.
Thanks for the help!

Finally, the F8 fuse seems to be blown...
From where can I buy a new one? And what do I need? There's an "F" on it if helps.

Hi,
considering that the F8 fuse is a 0.5A one, is there any other spec I should look for with the new fuse?
Would this one work :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... ink:top:en

It is a 0.5A too and it has also a F printed on it.

Look again in the fuse-pdf that I linked, near the end are part numbers and where to buy them.
