Re: Looking to buy a IBM ThinkPad 700T

I just got my parts in from Ebay today, a 16MB ICDRAM card, and a CF to 2.5" IDE adapter. The adapter should work fine, but I'm having an issue with the RAM. It appears as if there is an extra notch that isn't letting me insert it all the way that I didn't notice before. Clearly this tablet didn't use ICDRAM like later models. Now that I think about it, it might be some form of SRAM. I noticed below that the user ThinkPad560X mentioned they also had a 700T. If you happen to see this, would you mind telling me what kind is in your 700T. I'm not blaming anyone here but this is a little frustrating. I was all ready to fire it up and this happens. Can anyone help?

This doesn't make any sense here, I finally found a long lost page of specs for the 700T. I have Model 002.; http://ps-2.kev009.com/ohlandl/2524/2521.html According to it, my system would have had an 8MB DRAM card, which I'm assuming is ICDRAM since that is the only type of slot available. Well, as I mentioned before the ICDRAM card I just got from Ebay doesn't fit. It will if I wiggle it enough but the fit is way too tight (no bend pins thankfully) so clearly something isn't right here. The only differences is that this card is 16MB instead of 8MB, which I would think should fit just as good. That, and the memory access time was 80ns and I have 70ns. I thought I seen a few 700T owners on this forum somewhere. If you can I would appreciate it if you could tell me exactly what kind of RAM works in your system so I know what will work. Thanks!

I've got a fully loaded WORKING 700T with all the fixins. It's listed in the market place.

Here is a link to the goodies.

Wow that is cool! Two things; Can you tell me exactly what kind of RAM is in your system? According to the model number mine had 8MB, but it's clearly not ICDRAM. I've had some trouble with that if you've read above. And could you send me a copy of the floppies in the picture? (upload and send me a link) I'm assuming that it's running PenDOS, and if yes that is very hard to find now.
Thanks!

I've been having trouble finding much of anything on it. And what's this marketplace you mentioned? Is that some specific place or just anywhere?

Do you have a part number? I have an old unknown IBM adapter that was labelled IBM 700 series. But I don't have anything that old so I don't know which computer its for.

No, its the round plug type. But it looks older than my T42 charger. I'll snap a shot of it tomorrow.

Edit: looks like this:

I have that AC Adapter. Its 2M04T7200DR, I think this AC Adapter was for the ThinkPad 600. The pin inside the 700T is bigger in diameter then the ThinkPads like T/R/X/600. There AC Adapters will not fit because the hole is too small for the 700T pin. I'll try to take a picture of the 700T next to a standard ThinkPad.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Then it probably belongs to the 600X (or E) attached to our milling machine, cause we have no other 600 series IBMs. Which reminds me, gotta wrestle that thing out of its place and give it a good refurb. Whoever welded that thing in place should be shot.

The adapter you need is the same as the 730T and Thinkpad 350 series.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/730T-ThinkPad-A ... 3ccff82ff3

The adapters from older 15v Toshibas work, too.

I got that AC Adapter and came in today. I pluged it in and for the first time for me turning it on. It powers on and The green light comes on and does a fast 4 chirp error code every 10 sec. Nothing displays on the LCD. I't doesnt have a HDD but does take the normal laptop IDE HDDs, Or is there removeble RAM / Memory and is missing them? Dont really want to take it apart so hopefully its just saying no HDD. Also will Windows 95 run on this? I have Windows 3.1 floppy OS but 95 probably would be more easier to use for me.
