T520 SSD and 2.5 inch bay
Hello --
I'm not a technology maven, but I do love my ThinkPad. I just ordered a T520 with a 160 GB SSD hard drive. After I ordered it I read this review: http://www.storagereview.com/lenovo_thi ... 520_review, where they state:
"By far the coolest feature of of the ThinkPad T520 is the mSATA/WWAN slot located underneath the keyboard. Our review unit came equipped with the 80GB Intel SSD 310 working as the boot drive, keeping the primary 2.5-inch storage bay open for additional storage or scratch space."
This is a stupid question, I know.... but does this really mean that I can put the old 80 GB hard drive from my Z61m in the 2.5-inch bay, boot up from the SSD under the keyboard and have all my files without having to transfer?
Thanks to all posters.... I read a LOT of your stuff before ordering the T520. It'll be here soon!

Well the mSATA Intel 310 only comes up to 80GB, so you ordered a standard SSD, which will not connect to the mSATA slot. So the answer to your question is no.

Sigh, this is what comes of knowing enough about technology to be dangerous, but not enough to optimize. Knew I wanted a SDD and since you always run out of space, I thought the bigger the better. Not.
Moral of the story... Ask in the forum before you leap.
Thank you for the reply. It will still be a kick-butt box even if I have to transfer files.

So what configuration should one order, to enable use of the mSATA slot, and a conventional hard drive for files?Harryc wrote:Well the mSATA Intel 310 only comes up to 80GB, so you ordered a standard SSD, which will not connect to the mSATA slot. So the answer to your question is no.
