F3 Fuse Blown
Alright.... I reseated the LCD ribbon while the machine was on. Sparks came out of the plug and F3 blew up. None of the MOSFETS are damaged, just the fuse. Should I just replace the board or replace the fuse?

Re: F3 Fuse Blown
Change the fuse if you can. The machine has lead-free solder which melts at a very high temperature. I use a quartz preheater and a good rework station. People without such equipment can solder a new fuse on top of the old one.

Where would I find one of these fuses? It's less than a cm long

Re: F3 Fuse Blown
Doubtful that Dick Smith would carry one of these. Googling for a local electronic parts distributor in Australia I find:
- Digikey Australia
- Farnell (Element 14)
If the T6x uses the same types of fuses I've seen on earlier T series systems, then the fuse is probably sourced by Littelfuse as a 434003.

Re: F3 Fuse Blown
You should see if someone has a soldering station. Your other T60 can be an organ donor. I can pull one off a board here, but the cheapest shipping that actually has a good chance of arriving anytime soon is $13.25

Re: F3 Fuse Blown
Alright, so i'm back. The stupid fuse on the other mobo is blown too. No-one i know has a soldering station. All I have is just a soldering iron
Would it be better to just buy a new board, bypass the fuse or buy a new fuse and replace it?
Thanks.

Re: F3 Fuse Blown
Using your soldering iron, you just 'piggyback' solder the new fuse on top of the old one.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Re: F3 Fuse Blown
Alright, I'm back and typing from my trusty Thinkpad again!
I just wanted to say thanks to all you guys, my first proper laptop is working again...
Problems struck again though. The laptop now accepts RAM only in the first slot, if there's any
in the second slot, it would give a 1-1-1-1. Both RAM sticks are fine, to me, it sounds like a bad module, but I would like to know your opinions on what this might be :p
Anyway, it's enough soldering for one day... I managed to fix my other T60 and my T410 while at it, *PROFIT!*
I guess i'll start helping about on the forums now.... My expertise was software engineering for IBM.... before it went to Lenovo >:P
