Need help identifying the right battery by the part number..

#1 Post by fbrdphreak » Sun Apr 03, 2005 3:48 am

Hey all, here's the part numbers I have:

30R4957 -- 14.4V 7.2AH -- $199
92P1102 -- 10.8V 7.2AH -- $179

I saw from another post that the bottom battery is a Panasonic.
Why would the voltage change and subsequently cost more?
I want the 7.2AH battery no doubt, but I've heard the Sony's generally fit better in the T42's. (I've got a Sanyo and it is kinda loose)

If the top battery isn't right or isn't worth the extra dough, does any have a P/N for the Sony 7.2AH battery? Thanks!!

I have the 9 cell (7200) Panasonic battery and it fits well. The 14 volt battery is not the correct battery for a T42/43. I believe the Panasonic battery is the only 7200ma battery available. I ordered mine from IBM EPP and it shipped out of Hong Kong. The only 9 cell sony batteries that I have heard about are the lower capacity 6600ma versions.

I wouldn't have thought the 14V is correct, but they listed it for the T series; odd.
Regardless, if the Panasonic fits fine that works for me. Thanks! I'll be ordering mine from the EPP also ;)

In the market for a 9 cell and EPP is still listing these two batteries as R50/T40 batteries.

Anyone know if the 14v battery is better, justifying the extra cost?

If you read above, the 14V is not the right battery.

The following two pages have the battery info for the T42. I don't see where you are getting your part numbers. The 6-cell batteries are 4.4 Ah, 10.8 volts. The 9-cell batteries are 6.6 Ah, 10.8 volts.

Gomjabber

They upgraded the batteries to keep up with the electricity lovin T43's.

The batteries in question can be found:

http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840
http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840

Diff part numbers better power.

Main question is what's with the 2 9 cell batteries?

I web search does not show up much, but one guy who got the 14v version with his T43P.

If it's an error as craig contends, it's one they've ignored for many months.

I suspect that the 14.4 volt rating is a typo.

The primary reason being that a lithium cell with a voltage of 3.6 x (3) = 10.8 volts. So (3) sets of 3 cells each {9-cells total} is still 10.8 volts. In other words, (3) 3-cell sets wired in series, and those (3) sets wired in parallel.

Batteries wired in series add the voltage but not the current (capacity). Batteries wired in parallel add the current (capacity) but not the voltage.

If you consider 3.6 x (4) = 14.4 volts, it doesn't make sense for a 9-cell. This would have to be an 8-cell battery - or some combination that is a multiple of 4. Of course an 8-cell 14.4 volt lithium battery could exist (and probably does), but not a 9-cell 14.4 volt lithium battery.

See following for more info on lithium batteries.
