Advice on replacement battery for X61 (not tablet)

#1 Post by kennyschiff » Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:40 am

Am running Windows 7 Home 32-bit. Battery has a count of ~150, but Power Manager reports as "poor." Ran maintenance on battery, still comes back as poor. This is a 2nd hand machine, so I suspect battery is "tired." I've had good an bad luck with buying TP replacement batteries in the past. Conventional wisdom is to buy genuine, but very expensive (I would like 5200mAH). When I've tried to use generic batteries in a TP before, the system always nagged about it not being genuine (perhaps there's a way to shut this nag of).

Any advice is appreciated...

I have successfully bought batteries from eBayer SIB-auctions (T4x/R5x and T60).
see e.g. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Battery-IBM-Thi ... 0569186191

FWIW, I just bought this battery from BattDepot.com

http://www.battdepot.com/model/ibm/thin ... ib201.aspx

It reports the correct capacity and it DOES NOT trigger the non-genuine battery notice like my last generic battery did. It also has a 30 day money back and one year warranty.

My previous battery was an off brand bought from a seller on Ebay. It worked fine but did trigger the non-genuine warning. It also tended to self discharge by about a percent a day and ended up in "poor" condition after two years of light use. Too soon to tell if the BattDepot battery also self discharges.

EDIT: Apparently BattDepot is a reseller for Dr.Battery.com (the box was labeled Dr.Battery.com)

I've actually been looking for a replacement battery for my x60s, but I've been weary of the ebay batteries. Thanks for the link, I've placed my order. Interestingly, the same battery is much more expensive at drbattery.com than battdepot.
current: surface pro, x230, x60s
prev: x200, mb black, x41, x61, x41t, x31

Just a followup.... my new X61 battery from BattDepot is working well. Where my previous non-OEM battery (from Ebay) self discharged at about 1% per day even on AC, this one has taken more than 7 days to drop 1%. Both batteries were the same price.
