Pre-ordered a ThinkPad Tablet

#1 Post by fuscob » Thu Aug 18, 2011 3:44 pm

I placed a pre-order for the ThinkPad Tablet with CDW-G yesterday; my account rep told me that their system shows they will have stock very soon and will be shipping next week. I ordered the basic 16GB version (MT-M 1838-22U). I'll post my impressions of it here when I receive the device.

Welcome to the club of inpatient waiters! I have pre-ordered mine in old good Europe here http://www.notebooksandmore.net/product ... 382DG.html. Officially it should be delivered starting September 8th, unofficially it could be a "surprise" starting August 31st.

For now, my CDW-G account rep says that the ETA for my tablet is 15th September. With any luck, it might be a little sooner than that.

Fortunately, it was a lot sooner - the tablet shipped today. I should have it on Monday; I'll be posting my thoughts and impressions next week.

Hmm. I ordered mine direct from Lenovo and expedited it on their side. As of this morning it is still "in process". Hopefully it ships Monday!

Perhaps I should have ordered from CDW :(

CDW is great, and the account rep that I work with is awesome. I got a nice discount on the ThinkPad Tablet; he's also gotten me an X200t in the past for way less than even EPP pricing from Lenovo, and I got eight $99 HP TouchPads early this week thanks to him. Highly recommended :thumbs-UP:

How are you liking these Touchpads? I bought my 32GB Touchpad from HP for $149 plus tax and find myself using it a lot -- I am typing this post on it. I bet you will sell at least some of them. How much do you plan on selling them for?

I am glad I bought the 32GB model because it doesn't seem to have an expansion slot.

I kept one for myself and sold the rest to friends (no mark-up)...I have heard that people are getting $200+ on eBay for the 16GB model.

I like mine; there is a definite lack of application development for the platform, but I still find it enjoyable to use for web and e-mail and I think webOS is well-designed. I also have Ubuntu running on it, so I can run some Linux applications; take a look at http://forums.precentral.net/webos-deve ... chpad.html if you're interested. It is a little clunky at this stage but it does let you run additional applications and it's fun to play around with.

As we were in the midst of Hurricane Irene, I waited till today to try and order from CDW.

64 GB is no longer in stock.

Any suggestions?

J&R doesn't know when they will have it.
Amazon didn't answer my request for a date to order.

Leaving the USA in less than 2 weeks.

Any suggestions?

Has anyone gotten the tablet?

Thanks,

Hey, the QuickOffice update just came out today. Make sure you install it, because it allows you to edit/create Word and Excel documents. Without this update, QuickOffice can only read documents. I will be traveling for four days beginning tomorrow and am taking this TouchPad with me to see if it's sufficient for the simple things that I will do on this trip.

anabol, couple of the lucky guys in USA have already got the Thinkpad Tablet delivered and are posting their first impressions here http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-sl ... 605/page/3, so far the feedback is good.

If you're willing to go to smaller screens, there's also smartphones to consider as they're similar to tablets with just a smaller display. iPod 4's with Retina displays are $229 new, so perhaps a used one might be in your price range. Even though those displays are small, they have an amazingly high resolution (960x640) -- higher than you'll be able to find in any cheap tablet.
