about to buy an x220, warranty issues

#1 Post by brixvold » Fri Aug 19, 2011 4:31 am

Hi!

I'm trying to find the better deal on a i7 x220 with ips.
All the ebay deals I can see all feature the same 1 year warranty, with no obvious way to upgrade.
Is it possible to buy an extension after I buy the machine or would you recommend me to shop somewhere else.
Also I'm in Europe, and warranty extensions seems rather hard to get around here if you don't buy the actual product locally.

Cheers!

I don't know how it works in Europe, but in the US as long as the machine is not refurbished, you should be able to upgrade the warranty any time while the machine is under warranty. Have you asked Lenovo?

I've tried Lenovo, they tell me to ask their service partners/ sales centres etc. none of which have any idea what I'm asking them about.
Hence this post, because I think it will be much less hasle to achieve in the US, I just don't know how to go about it.
I've seen posts in the forum mentioning provantage as a cheaper place to buy warranty upgrades/extensions but the devil is in the details, and their website has no details about how their (lenovo) warrranty extensions work.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately all they offer are upgrades to on-site warranty.
My German vocabulary just gets better and better :)

I bought the machine though eBay, there was one just as I wanted it.
Now I'm getting the very kind seller to do a warranty upgrade for me.
Life can be so simple sometimes.

c'ya guys ;)

What specs got your X220?

I'm also looking on eBay, but can't really find the perfect deal. Either Windows Home Premium (want Pro) or a 6 cell battery, etc.

If you find a i5 / i7 with Intel 6300, BT, 9 Cell, W7P 64, 4-8 GB and IPS though...

btw: Want to share the seller? :)

i7, 8GB(25$upgrade from 4GB), 320GB, Atheros wifi (ThinkPad bgn), 6 cell, pro, bt, fingerprint reader.

Which is what I really wanted all of it :)
I've bought a msata ssd I'm gonna load up with ubuntu, next on the list is a 500GB 7mm(yikes!) harddrive.
