15.4" WSXGA+ screen replacement resolution question

I am getting a used T61 with a busted 15.4" widescreen. I have juiced up t61 14.4 that bit the dust, so I am going to pull the proc (t9300) and memory (4gb) and HD (SSD) and put it into the t61 15.4" machine and replace the broken screen. My question is, it appears as though the 15.4 comes in two resolutions, the 15.4"- WXGA- 1280x800 or WSXGA+ 1680x1050. Id like to find a 1680x1050 replacement screen. Can I use this in a t61 that originally came with the 1280 x 800? I just prefer the higher resolution.

For the CPU replacement can you guys recommend a good guide to take apart the t61 without breaking anything? I cant wait to get this thing running again!

The LCD's you mentioned should be a straight swap. Here's the hardware maintenance manual -

Get a Lenovo FRU for the LCD, they are;

Samsung 42X4641
LG 42T0417
LG 42T0423

Of the (3) above the FRU# 42T0423 is considered to be the best.

Ok thanks for the info, so the below 15.4 screen with the higher resolution (1680 x 1050) will work with my Intel GMA X3100 graphics controller on the new t61? (It currently has a broken 1280 x 800 screen)

Ok cool. I went ahead and ordered the glossy screen, I think it will be a good change. i've tried the matte for the last 3 years.

Any way to fix sloppy hinges? I noticed it just the joint turning in the casing a bit and not the actual mechanism. Guess I could try to press them apart and re-apply with JB weld. What other improvements should I make while I have it apart?

Hinges are cheap enough. I don't think you'll be successful in repairing them.
