X60 function button on-screen display?
X60 function button on-screen display?
My X60 has no on-screen display for any of the function buttons, such as volume up and down. Further, the volume controls seem not to work, though they sure beep loud enough. Can anyone point me to the correct install that might fix this?
Couldn't find an answer to this with a search. So thanks in advance.

That is what I tried previously. I downloaded and installed the package but it did not seem to put an application anywhere. Is there some way to then turn it "on" or is it supposed to always be active?

Did you actually read the manual install instructions at that link?
Manual Install
This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
[Downloading file]
Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
In the window to choose Run or Save, click the Save button.
Choose the folder you would like to download the file to and click the Save button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully.
[Extracting file]
Make sure to be logged on with administrative account.
Locate the folder where the file was downloaded.
Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
In the "Select Destination Location" window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse.
In the "Ready to Install" window, click Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in the step 9.
[Installing files]
Make sure the checkbox next to "Install ..... now" is checked and click Finish.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation and restart the computer.
Finally delete the file saved in the step 4.

Re: X60 function button on-screen display?
The programme installed (supposedly) without me having to do anything manually. All the files appear to be in the correct folders within c:\win\hotkey\. If I manually run the Setup programme it tells me I indeed have the Lenovo System Interface Driver, On Screen Display and ThinkPad Magnifier installed. The magnifier works but nothing else gives me an onscreen display. The volume mute works but the up and down volume controls do not (although they do unmute the volume).

Check prerequisites -
(For Windows XP only) If this software is updated to version 3.02.0000 or higher, it is also required to update the following software.

Power Manager to version 1.70 or higher (for the Fn+F3 key function)
(For Windows Vista/XP only) It is required to install Presentation Director version 4.04 or higher.
ThinkPad L410, L510, R400, R500, SL410, SL510, T400, T400s, T500, W500, W700, W700ds.
All other notebooks not listed above.
(For Windows Vista only) The package just support Vista SP1 (service pack 1) or later if the Intel Video driver had been installed.

Re: X60 function button on-screen display?
OK I have noted that for my next computer (since I am likely to get another of these). This one I need to run slim, so installing several apps just to get a simple screen display is not worth it for me. In fact I'll uninstall what I've done so far.
I will say that Lenovo is brilliant for having all of these programmes on-line, even if it is not quite apparent what to download to accomplish which task.
