T43 Fan - summary of six years ?

#1 Post by kstuart » Fri Sep 02, 2011 8:59 pm

I have acquired a T43 and remembered all the discussions about heat and fan noise.

There are a lot of threads, and I was wondering if anyone could summarize what people found to be the most practical solution(s) for keeping the thinkpad cool, while keeping the fan low or off most of the time. ;)

( 2669-89U with 1.86 cpu and x300 gpu )

( I tried the tpfancontrol, and the default setting made the bottom under the fan quite hot... )

Notebook Hardware Control - used to undervolt the CPU and underclock the GPU (the latter being more of a heat source on these machines) would be my preferred choice, combined with TPFC.

Also, using the M10 long fan from T42/p instead of M24 will keep the machine quieter.

That's the best I have, I'm certain that other folks have solutions of their own.

Thanks for the information.

Another thing that might be helpful is tpfancontrol settings for T43's. As I mentioned, it comes with one person's settings for T61 (which seem to be for the person of keeping the fan off, as opposed to having it run at low rpms).

Either the whole .ini or the modified "smart" settings for T43 would be helpful to both me and to future readers.
