W520 dual-monitors with one portrait

#1 Post by YW-Slayer » Fri Sep 02, 2011 11:10 pm

Hi all,

Could anyone help me out with this? My current setup is a desktop and an X301. The desktop drives a Dell 24" 2407 WFP (landscape mode) on the left, which is my primary monitor. On the right of that is an old (but still verygood) Viewsonic VP171s 17" in portrait mode. With this setup, I get almost exactly the same screen height on both, so I extend the desktop across both monitors. Tthe Viewsonic is very useful for viewing Outlook and emails in portrait format.

For various reasons, I am thinking of buying an Optimus-enabled W520 and using it to drive this setup, while putting the W520 elsewhere, possibly on the right . My question is this: When it drives a dual-monitor setup, is it possible to ensure that 1 monitor is portrait and the other landscape? What if I use it to drive a triple display (Dell, Viewsonic, and internal LCD) - can I ensure that the Viewsonic will remain in portrait mode even if the Dell and the internal LCD are landscape, while having the desktop extended across all 3 screens?

Thanks very much. To keep things short, I probably can't just get another 24" monitor or go for any funky solutions as space is somewhat lacking.

Absolutely no problems having 1 display in portrait.
