DVD drive speed...

Hello all!

Was wondering, what is the best speed to set the dvd rom drive at? Max performance seems to be the obvious choice but the default is 'normal' and so i wonder if max performance has some kind of disadvantage like heat issues etc? Ive tried the 'silent' option which is great for listening to cds with as you can bearly hear a thing from the drive - as opposed to it usually sounding like its gonna take off! I did notice a small decrease in performance with this however when reading data cds, burning etc.

If you have the DVD Multi-burner in your T42, by all means set it to optimal...that little thing needs all the speed-help it can get. If you're talking about a Combo drive (DVD/CDRW) then experiment...still think optimal is going to suit your needs...your computer can take it with a Gig of RAM and fairly fast graphics card and I don't think it's going to produce a lot of heat unless you're watching movies on it day-in and day-out...but then again, whether optimal speed or not, movies will only play at a set speed.
