Obscure Storage Device Driver Problem

#1 Post by mark-ibmtp » Tue Sep 06, 2011 5:20 pm

I've had this on 2 T43 machines. Device manager shows two devices under "SCSI and RAID controllers":

A2RX4YCE IDE Controller
AC4P3KIE IDE Controller

The second always shows with a driver problem (exclamation point). When I try to install a driver, I get obscure error messages such as "the specified service does not exist as an installed service." But I think the underlying problem, is simply that WinXP doesn't find a driver.

This doesn't seem to cause any functional problem, but I didn't like the "unclean" device manager state. I recently tried fixing it (by attempting to install the driver) and now get the "new hardware found" dialog every time I reboot.

Has anyone seen something like this? Ideas how to clear it?

A stab in the dark: do you have the SATA power management driver installed?
