Adding an IR port to X20 - possible?

#1 Post by skuehne » Mon Apr 04, 2005 6:22 pm

Does anyone know if an IR port can be added to an X20 (2662-37U to be specific)? The case of my X20 has a cut-out for the IR port, but it is covered with a regular piece of plastic. Does the mainboard have the connectors for hooking up the IR hardware from other, later X2x machines?

No IR on the X20 or X21, you'd need an X22 or later motherboard transplant.

Thanks! That plastic cover looked just tempting ;-) But I guess I skip IRDA then and buy a Bluetooth CF-Card ...

Hehehe... they even have this little space cover, and a part # sticker right where the IR port would go (on the X20).

http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/UltraPort

Digital Camera (two versions)
Microphone
Bluetooth
IR
Compact Flash adaptor (makes no sense on an X series, but the X2*s weren't the only ones to have the UltraPort)

Of course, it's the USB 1.1 protocol, just a different connector...

I want either IR or the microphone, FWIW. However, there's a mic jack on the laptop, and I can get a cheap USB IR dongle (probably better, b/c I don't want to have to rest my cell phone on my nightstand and lean out of the path of the connection to sync).
