OK guys, will both mobos work in a T61, with a widescreen 14.1 inch screen? Do I need to look for a mobo, based on the screen size?

No, the board layouts are very different. There are three different layouts, subdivided by graphics type (nVIDIA vs. Intel).

Yes, there is no way around that. Check the table at the bottom of thinkpad-wiki.org/T61 for the possible FRU options. Avoid any nVIDIA board at all cost, as it will die sooner or later.
