T61 Screen Split into 6

I have a 4 year old T61 that was working fine this morning. When I booted it up this afternoon the desk top is split into 6 full screens with lots of vertical lines in varying widths. Each of the screens is identical and when I move the cursor it moves in all 6 screens. So far, the problem also exists in safe mode and an image restore did not resolve the problem. Would this likely be a motherboard or screen issue? Thanks.

Sounds like a defective GPU. Is this an nVidia T61? What is the manufacturers date from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop?

I don't see a mfg. date on the bottom. The model is 6459 CTO if that helps.

The graphics card is a NVIDIA NVS 140M and now that I am searching I see that they are prone to failure.

Thanks for the link. It's pretty sad that Lenovo knew about this problem and did nothing to fix the T61's before the warranty expired.

It looks like I need to look for a new laptop. My old T30 will probably still run in the mean time.
