T42 with radeon 9600, mini dock and 1600x1200 DVI LCD -- OK?
I am about to invest in the Samsung 213T LCD for photo editing with the above set-up and want to double check that I can make this work.
Prior posts seem to indicate that I can run the 213T at 16000x12000 DVI (and still use my lap top at its current 1400x1050 on my 14"). My understanding is that I need the "November" drivers or need to mod my ATI drivers.
Several questions:
1. Can anyone who is actually running this set-up confirm that it works? How did you do it? Are there any limitations in either the standalone or docked performance?
2. What's the best way to update the drivers? I am having trouble finding the "November" driver.
3. Does the pivot function work on the 213T after driver modification?
Thanks for the help.

I've retitled my post to make it more general to anyone trying to use a Radeon 9600, a mini-port and an external LCD running at DVI 1600x1200.
I know there has been scattered discussion on this topic, but I'd like to learn from someone who has actually made it work before buying the monitor.
Thanks again.

I was running a T42, ATI9600, Minidock II, and Dell 2001fp at 1600x1200 on DVI. I have now switched to a Dell 2405FPW at 1920x1200. Quality on both is phenominal. Both pivot - but have no detector - the driver menu must be used to select rotation.
Modded ATI catalyst drivers were required. Port Replicator II should be identical. I have also used a Sony 20" LCD at 1600x1200 with DVI with this setup.
BTW - I just dock my Dock II - I plan to add a DVI card and run both together on DVI.

Thanks very much for the response -- it will move me ahead on my monitor purchase.
If it's not too much trouble, would you mind sharing several details of your success:
1. Versions of Catalyst (ATI) drivers and mod software used -- and any special requirements
2. Advice on how you set things up to easily switch between docked and undocked settings.
Thanks.

Badly. Undocking just seems to work. Docking often stays at 1450x1050 until I reset it in the control panel.

I just got my T42 running DVI on a Dell 2001FP (1600x1200) last night and the resolution is awesome. I went into some detail with my experience on this thread (in this T-series forum):

I noticed this post from yesterday that confirms that the November ATI drivers also solve the 1600x1200 DVI problem.
Does anyone have an opinion as to which is the better approach: the November download or modded drivers?
Thanks.

<I just downloaded the drivers and installed on my T41.
It works greate on the T41 as well (2379-DJU model) and drives my dell 2000FP at 1600x1200 via DVI Smile
It was pretty easy to create a new configuration using the "Presentation Director", I will list out the steps here in case any one needs them
Start the "Presentation Director" by pressing "Fn+F7" on the laptop keyboard.
Choose "Manage Schemes..."
Create a "New" scheme
Select "External Device" only in the top checkbox.
Select "Output to both a VGA device and a DVI device"
On the next page
Select Resoultion as "1600 x 1200 (UXGA)", Color Quality "Highest (32 bit) and Refresh Rate "60 Hz".
Select "Display Device for Movie Playback" as "DVI"
The options on the next 2 pages can be left unchecked and then name the new scheme and you should be dont
Next time when you select the "Fn+F7" from the laptop, this option should be part of the list>
