T60 LCD+heat issue?

#1 Post by wujstefan » Thu Sep 15, 2011 7:31 am

Hello,
I've found out that my T60 is displaying a straight vertical blue line at the very right side of the lcd. I am sure it is not the converter problem (tried 3 of them). Did anyone face such a thing? Would be grateful for some help.

EDIT:
Another thing I have found: after reseating the fan (Arctic Silver 5 on CPU - it got extremely hot before reseating) I have found that my gpu is not losing its heat when the fan is on. 58C when fan is on 3000+rpm, same for fan off. When I get the GPU running on some game etc. and after making it sweat turn it off the GPU needs about 3-4 mins to get its normal temperature. Plus, the air blown by the fan is cool. What should I do to about that?

You will need to replace the LCD to get rid of that vertical stripe.
One of the column-drivers inside the LCD is faulty, this cannot be repaired unfortunately.

As to your fan: after replacing the thermal paste, it may no longer 'fit' properly on top of the GPU.
You may have bent it just a fraction, enough to not make full proper contact with the GPU-surface.
Take it apart again and try to level the GPU-part. Be very careful, don't bend it more than required!

I've managed with that vertical stripe... for now at least. Making some pressure on white tape at the back of the LCD did the work for now.

How can I level a thermal pad on GPU? Put on some superthin arctic silver on GPU?

I'm talking about the copper part, onto which the pad is attached.
Somehow that does not sit flush on your GPU anymore.
If the copper is straight, the pad will also be straight.
If you want you can also apply Arctic Silver to the top of the GPU, then fully assemble the fan back in, then take it out again to verify if the pad fits flush. It should have paste all over it (transferred from the GPU) if it fits flush.
