Transferring aystem and files to a new HD: Suggestions?

#1 Post by ozmann » Tue Apr 05, 2005 4:56 pm

My new X40 came with a hard drive that makes a maddeningly loud click/tick every time it finishes reading or writing (the actual data access is quite quiet). IBM Service is sending a replacement.

Is the IBM Rescue-Repair program an effective way to transfer the hidden partition and the system, program and data files I have in the C and D partitions that I created? Alternatively, should I invest in an imaging program such as True Image? I have both a USB hard drive and the CD/DVD burner for the X4 base.

Thanks for any advice. :D

I used deploy center to create stand alone drive image diskets, and I just place the new hard drive in hard drive caddy which goes into the drive bay of the dock. Then I just do a simple disk to disk copy, I have never used the IBM software because the drive image has worked so well for me.

Thanks otaruexwing. Deploy Center seems to be an enterprise product, not available to individual users. I assume that stand alone programs such as True Image would work as well.

I was interested in the group's experience with IBM Rescue-Repair, but belately realize that it might be a better question for the software forum.

ozmann --

TrueImage worked fine for me when I replaced the 12 Gb with a 60 Gb in a T20.
