FireGL T2 vs. Mobility 9600 64MB -- Game performance?

#1 Post by vageetasjn » Tue Apr 05, 2005 6:05 pm

How do these compare with regard to game performance -- is there a noticeable difference? Do they operate at different mem/core clocks? I read one review where the reviewer stated that the FireGL T2 did not have a performance edge over the 64MB 9600. Does this hold any truth? Is it worth the extra cost if I won't be doing CAD work?

Thanks

The fire gl is better, although you won't want to show off either one of them at a lan party. I think if you want to go up to the t43p, you ought to check out the v3200, which is based on the x600 ati, and should be the fastest out of the four.
T43p 2687EJU, 512+512 ram, 2ghz, 15 in UXGA, V3200, MultiBurn, ect.

I'm leaning toward the T42/T42p. Gaming performance is not as important as having an overall quality laptop, so while it's not crucial, it is a nice bonus.

Does anyone have actual figures or firsthand experience comparing the performance of the T42 w/ 9600 and T42p?

Only diff is drivers (which you can install if you want), which are CAD optimized and video memory. Performance diff is little to none with most applications.

Where are the OpenGL drivers? Will these work with a standard 9600?

See FAQ in my signature for programs that need OpenGL.

The 9600 in T42 with more then a gig of memory and the 7200rpm drive is all you need.

Tweak your game a tad bit (ie for Doom 3 increase the memory settings) and you can play most games easily @800x on high quality settings.
