Wi-Fi issue on well running T42

#1 Post by kodackamera » Tue Sep 27, 2011 6:35 pm

Hi forum,

I have an issue with connecting to wireless networks using my t42, which are easily accessed by other computers, this suggests to me that the t42 is at fault.

A week or so ago, all was working well. I do not know at which point

It uses the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 BG Mini-PCI Adapter.

It always complains of "limited or no connectivity".

I do not have any of the ThinkVantage access connections software in use. I have left it well alone, perhaps I should try to use it, but an article on here about setting it up makes it sounds extremely complex (I am not a computer expert). In order to stop using Wi-Fi I have to disable the adapter. the Fn+f5 controls do not work, but bring up a page to turn on/off, which actually makes no difference.

The Driver version for the adapter is 9.0.4.39 driver date is 19/12/2007

Please help, I would value some suggestions and insight!

If you cannot fix it with drivers...I would suggest replacing the wireless adapter. It is a simple job. Did you try reloading your OS?

You could first try doing a repair install of the drivers. In Windows XP go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel and choose to uninstall the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software. You should then be given the option to do a repair of the installation. Try this.

If that doesn't work, you can uninstall the existing drivers and install the latest ones from the following link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/researc ... MIGR-55386

For Fn+F5 to work you also need the Hotkey Features driver installed (sounds like you already do).

Also look at this for a possible solution (Winsock2 repair): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259

Gomjabbar, I reinstalled the driver as per the the page you linked to, uninstalled driver, then put the downloaded one on.

Fantastic, all working now!..

But wait..

a few minutes later, windows update then updated and installed drivers for the BLUETOOTH!!

Then I return to the laptop. Wifi? "Limited or no connectivity" here we are again.

Perhaps there is an interference (software) caused by the bluetooth?

What do you think could be happening? Just ask and I'll provide as much detail as I can.

Fn + F5 should bring up a dialog box to turn the WiFi and Bluetooth radios on & off (independently).

I have a T42 with Bluetooth and never had it interfere with WiFi. Strange. Bluetooth might be making a modem connection with your cell phone nearby and trying to use the internet through your cell phone. :?

There's certainly some kind of conflict.

As I type this message I am connected to a network via the Wireless adapter.

Under Fn+F5 settings, both bluetooth and wifi are "powered off" I don't believe this piece of software currently is governing the powering of either card.

Can anyone imagine how this conflict could be occuring?

Modem connection via bluetooth? well my phone always has bluetooth off, or do you mean in another way?
