x200s problem with Fiingerprint after re-install

#1 Post by Tony Chan » Tue Sep 27, 2011 7:22 pm

I've just replaced the hard drive on my x200s with a lager ssd. Using the recovery cd to prepare the new hard drive works flawlessly. When it comes to fingerprint enrollment I did not add new enrollment to it, but I didn't erase the originally stored enrollments as well ( as I might be swapping back the old ssd some day ). It seems to worked fine when logging in when it first starts up. But when it comes out of sleep and I swipe my finger it pops a message saying "The computer is locked and only the logged on user can unlock the computer". I can then choose to click "other credentials" and logon as myself using the password.

Anyone know why? Do I have to completely erase the original enrollment? What happens when I pop my old hard drive back in?

I had an issue similar to this reinstaling Windows on my X200s. Don't remember exactly what happened, but I fixed it by clearing the fingerprint data and redoing it all. I'm not sure, but I think the fingerprint data is stored on the security chip and my laptop somehow got confused separating the new install from the old. Even if you erase the original enrollment, you'll be able to log in to the old hard drive using whatever password you've set in Windows.
