x41t only Posts without battery

So I purchased a x41t on ebay. The seller said there was a minor problem with the jack, and it sometimes loses power when you wiggle it. However, he says it booted to xp just fine. When I try to turn it on, it freezes on the ibm thinkpad splash screen. I've only been able to get it to post twice, and that's with the battery out. about 50/50 when I hit the power button, only the green "z" light turns on and the screen doesn't turn on. otherwise it just freezes on the ibm splash screen. Is this a battery problem? Motherboard problem? I've read up a ton, but haven't seemed to find a great solution yet. Thanks, for everyone's help.

I would return it for a refund from that eBayer, claiming it is not as described.
Then look for another X41t on this forum.
I believe you got some offers via PM...
