X220t: How to Enable GPS

#1 Post by SetTainte » Fri Sep 30, 2011 1:56 am

There was a discussion earlier in here:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... ps#p644179

And the conclusion was:
bill bolton wrote: [quote "SetTainte"] GPS can be enabled on all the cards by driver?[/ quote]
It can for the Sierra and Ericsson cards, I don't know about the others.

Cheers,

Bill B.
Now my question is what should I do to enable the GPS on my Ericsson HSPA + (F5521gw) WWAN?
Wanted to make a new topic for this in case somebody else wants to find the same information --> easier for them.

Device manager says that my GPS is installed in COM6 and is working:

How ever even if keep the ThinkVantage GPS software on for 2 hour nothing happens. It doesn't find my location...

I do have the
- GPS turned on
- Selected "Enable location and other sensors" in control panel.

I broke your image tags. We don't allow images without a warning in the subject line, and then only one small picture. Thanks

Have you taken your ThinkPad outdoors to see if you can acquire a signal there?

I have tried GPS before with a Sierra Wireless 881 AirCard, and I had to have the ThinkPad outdoors for it to pick up the satellite signal. GPS uses satellites instead of, or in addition to, your cellular signal. Satellite signals tend to be weak.

Yes, I was working on a dock for some hours =)
No trees or buildings around disturbing, just the sea...

No signal.

If you haven't already, try turning your laptop to face a different direction...

You might see if there are any firmware updates - from Lenovo, your carrier, or perhaps from Sony Ericsson.

Make sure your WWAN driver and GPS software is fully up to date.
