#1 Post by LordDrake » Wed Apr 06, 2005 9:44 am

Everytime i try i get the error: NTLDR is missing

The thing i have done is

1: i made one big fat partition on my 20gb harddrive
2: i copyed the i386 folder from my winxp cd
3: used a boot disk to boot the laptop and start the installation (i have an external USB floppy drive)

and after the first reboot i get the error NTLDR is missing

do any of u guys know what the problem might be

It seems a strange way to install XP. Set your ThinkPad BIOS to boot from CD, insert your XP CD, boot from it, delete all partitions, make one large NTFS partition (get over FAT and dump it as a thoroughly useless and insecure file system), and install XP. Then go to the IBM support site for your machine:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... country=us
and download all the XP drivers for it (especially power management drivers). If it is going to work at all, this should do it for you.
Good luck. ... JD Hurst

One more problem

#4 Post by LordDrake » Sat Apr 09, 2005 4:34 pm

The problem is that i dont have a media slice for it, so i cant boot from a cdrom.

the x20 dosent have an integraded cdrom drive.

and it cant boot from an external usb cdrom either. so thats why i used that method.

Ok, I did not realize you could not boot from CD. What you can do, and I have done is go to the Microsoft site and look for XP boot diskettes. There is a set for basic XP, a set for XP SP1 and probably a set for XP SP2. You need the correct set. It is something like xp...en_pro_bf.exe.

Boot from diskette and get it going, then when it asks for the CD, remove the Floppy drive (USB no doubt), and plug in the CD. A bit dicy, but it might work. ... JD Hurst
