that isn't a t40p
it is a t40...
granted it is the most powerful regular t40 but it doesn't have the firegl or 9cell battery that made it a t40p, you can get a t40p on ebay for 1100, if descibing it as a p was an error, please correct it, if you are trying to con someone please leave

ADMIN EDIT: changed images to links.. sorry, we try to avoid large graphics files embedded in posts.. :)

if its not a t40p and its not a t40 then what is it? :o i dont think the t40 is supposed to have bluetooth, but i do have that. the ONLY thing i dont have is a trackpad. I wasnt going to "con" anybody either. The front of the notebook on the lcd edge says "T40p" sorry if i put that in the description. can we figure out what it is so i can "correctly" sell it as that? 8)

I'm going to have to mull this over a bit. One never knows what's going on with these CTO units as they can get anything the owner wants hung on them.

Bluetooth on a base T40 is not a problem, there were plenty that came with it, same with the SXGA+ display.

But the FireGL video card was reserved for the T40p only.

IBM says this unit (2373-X93) is: Based on 2373-Y1J (CTO): P M 1.6GHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9000, 16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Bluetooth/Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), Intel 802.11b wireless(MPCI), Secure Chip, 6c Li-Ion batt, No preload.

Very curious.

im confused as well, whats the main difference between the t40 and t40p? the touchpad? cause if thats it then i dont have one. one thing is for sure, its a good notebook. i was bored at work so i fired up ut and it ran better than my late zv5220. the battery life is stupidly long for a 6 cell too. ibm screwed up with the restore cds, they forgot to send me the first restore cd. then they sent me the restore cds for a t41 on up. they work well though, thats what i am using as an install right now with.

Didn't we go through this T40 badged as a T40p a while back? Does anyone remember what the final conclusion was?

Primarily the Fire GL card, the SXGA+ display, the 9 cell battery standard as well as 512MB RAM and, usually, a 7K60 HD.

They're gorgeous units, but they were quickly outdone by the 15" UXGA+ displays available on the T41p, T42p and T43p.

Believe it or not but I have a case that says T40 but the rest of the unit (mainboard, Dothan 1.6, 1 GB of PC2700 RAM, HDD with the T42 shock sensor protection thingy, Ultranav Trackpad, etc.) is all T42! No lie. It's a LONG story and I'll tell it if someone wants to know later. I just bought it "like new" (the business purchased it from IBM in 8/04 but never deployed it) from a business and it had no model or serial number on it anywhere (case. OS, or BIOS). IBM said it was no problem and researched all the parts which came back as an upgraded 2373-L13 which is a T42 per IBM (they know the case says T40). The warranty is as a T42. IBM claims if someone places a special order for a so-to-be-d/c'ed model and they want upgrades, they will give honor the older model price and upgrade the unit, but they get the old case badge for getting the price break (so as not to make a quick buck on a resale). So if I have a T42 with a T40 badge then this dude can have something else with a T40p badge. Plus I'll buy it if the price is right to go with my other "misfit" as I'm sure not worried about what the badge says. I buy them to USE them... not to resell. Just PM me and then send the pics and the price.

my t43 i got from work for "free" feels alot heavier than this notebook. i just sold my zv5220 a64 based hunk of plastic to get this notebook and its like less than half as much weight and feels just as fast, better graphics at the very least.

15" fans will say that the larger model "surpassed" the 14" SXGA, but the 14" T-series was and remains the top of the ThinkPad range.

It is just the best combination of high resolution, power and portability on the market today.

There were some A31 units that IBM put A31P on. But they were clearly not A31p models because they didn't have the firegl graphics.

This T40 seems to have everything that would make it a T40p and as I recall there were no T40's sold with 64mb video ram except the T40p. It would seem to be a t40p to me.

Course I also bought a T40p on ebay with 128mb firegl 9600 card in it. But I know IBM didn't sell it that way so someone probably replaced the motherboard.
