replace WXGA+ on x201s 7469-5KG

#1 Post by binary.koala » Tue Oct 04, 2011 4:08 pm

hi all,

so i just bought a wrecked 7469-5KG with the intention to upgrade my other x200 (7459-WJM) to WXGA+ screen. basically i'm about to make a perfect machine out of two mediocre ones ;)
there are a few questions i have:

1. what display shall i be opting for? the original LTD121EQ3B replacement (fru 42T0480 or 42T0479) is quite pricey (300 us, what?!) and isn't available in the EU. also if possible i would like to get a better screen then the factory default, is there something like the famous "Boe-Hydis HV121WX4" but in WXGA+ res and LED backlit?

2. can i combine 7459-WJM chassis and 7469-5KG display assembly? will BIOS 'recognize' new XWGA+ panel? the objective here would be to keep my fully powered CPU as 7469-5KG has got SL9400 underpowered CPU...

3. is there any hack to install a webcam into x200s WXGA+ display bezel? i have use for that little thingie and kind of hate the idea of having to carry an external webcam all the time.

i will really appreciate any relevant info and promise to report back on my progress! ;)

I don't know of a better LCD in WXGA+ for the X200s. They are pricey like you mention. Probably because there were not many produced. Send me a PM if you are interested in the complete WXGA+ assembly as I happen to have one on hand with a brand new LCD.

The complete WXGA+ assembly should fit with no issue.

I have never tried to install a webcam on the WXGA+ assembly. I have heard it won't work though.

thanks for the info Brad!
regardless i will sniff around to see if any cheaper/better panel can fit.
any hints what kind of compatibility level i need to be looking for?
i can hardly believe that lenovo used a specially designed panel to fit x200s with.
what about other LED 1440x900 @12.1" laptops?

Believe it

The X200s uses a completely different top lid assembly than the X200. It has a carbon fiber top designed solely to support the WXGA+ screen, and webcams were never an option on the X200s due to the lack of room. I've wondered if it would be possible somehow to hack one in (I use a X200s myself) but I can tell you from taking the lid apart on my own machine that it would be a tight fit.

http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/sec ... IBM-Lenovo

these seems to be fine people selling TFTs - anyone here had any experience with them?

i think i found what i need http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0561742263
do all WXGA+ panels on x200s have 40pin connectors? i haven't gotten my (screen-broken) x200s yet, so sort of in the dark.

cheers,

so i replaced the tft panel with the one bought off the above mentioned ebay seller. the panel arrived in just 4 days (!), fitted perfectly and i think is pretty genuine. the only pity is that the colour is kind of sucky - too blue or too green... hard to say right now. i will try to calibrate it but the overall picture quality of 1440x900 LED panel 42T0480 LTD121EQ3B is severely mediocre.

no way of fitting in the webcam (as mentioned above) mainly for the reasons of the flatness of x200s screen.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. The color isn't phenomenal on my X200s either, especially compared to the new IPS screens. Enough color to do work though :D
