LCD display has horizontal lines and flashes

#1 Post by Alan Jones » Wed Apr 06, 2005 2:32 pm

My R31 TP has developed a very annoying problem. The display has thin horizontal lines and flashes. It must be a connector problem because I can make it go away, sometimes, by moving the display back and forth or by holding it one position.

Take it to the service, it is not an expensive repair issue.
Let's go'n'restart :-)

Repair or replace?

#3 Post by Alan Jones » Wed Apr 06, 2005 3:46 pm

I called IBM. They gave me the name of a local place (not IBM) that does repairs. Price: $595. Heck it only cost about $1100 two years ago. Looks like I'd be better off buying new.

Self-repair

I was hoping, based on some of the other postings, to be able to take the TP apart and reseat a cable or something simple like that.

or, open the machine up, check the connections on both ends of the lcd cable, if they are in good, the cable is bad, buy a new lcd cable for no more than 50 bucks and your thinkpad is as good as new, lot less money

It is a cost of brand new LCD.

They advised you to replace the whole LCD... If it is really only a connector problem then it is $50 repair issue. Try another service.

When you call IBM they always advise you the most expensive way.

"I have a problem with LCD" ~ "Change LCD"

Easy and safe for them.
